Helllo Everyone!
I just wanted to post a quick note to let anyone who is interested know my new book titled ZBrush Digital Sculpting: Human Anatomy has published and is available now via Amazon</a> and bookstores. Its the followup to ZBrush Character Creation. This book is a guided sculpture tutorial through the entire process of sculpting a heroic male figure from the insides out. I have posted the Amazon link here as well as a Sample chapter here.

The book starts with a chapter on building a Maya or ZSphere base model in the 8 head proportional cannon. We discuss different proportions and why the 8 head cannon is so easy to use and works well for heroic figures. From there we move into sculpting a rough gesture version of the figure massing in the major forms of the body. From there we develop a planar version of the full figure to help understand how planes and angles affect the way form reads.

The rest of the book covers the parts of the body. The head is covered from the skull to the muscles to the fat and flesh. The rest of the body is addressed in a similar fashion. For each part we will look at the major muscle groups, the shapes they create, bony landmarks on the surface and how to use the ZBrush brushes to create these forms and refine them to a finish. Later chapters detail how to create costume elements, how to remesh the figure in ZBrush or using NEX tool for Maya, as well as a texture chapter by Eric Keller on how to create a full body texture map and render the figure in Maya with SSS. I also include a full set of high resolution texture and sculpting ref photos courtesy of 3d.sk

The DVD features several narrated tutorials as well as long videos showing the process I used to sculpt the various parts of the body.

The sculpting process shown is my preferred method of working. It uses the Move, Standard, Claytubes, and Flatten brushes heavily. It also includes some of the new ZBrush brushes such as form and polish as well as the Depth masking control. New brush workflows and changes to the brush behaviors and interface are covered as they come up. My sculpting workflow is quite simple, I reply on a limited number of brushes and masks to create all my forms. I believe this is a great way to learn to sculpt as well since it avoids getting lost in a sea of options and loosing sight of the goal.
I worked on the book for over an year and I am very excited to share it with you all. As I was working on the book I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to do over 40 hours of cadaver lab time in dissections. I feel that this experience helped shape the book and added to the information I was able to communicate.
Thanks to everyone who has purchased this or my previous book. Thanks as well to those who send me emails and keep in touch. I love hearing from other artists who find these books useful! Happy sculpting!
