While the vehicle was parked, unoccupied, locked, and the motor was not running, apparently the driver's side seat caught fire. I did not see the actual flames, but I did open the driver door to find the bottom cushion and most of the electrical wiring in the driver seat melted and charred and a thick layer of soot on everything in the vehicle.

The roof on the inside of my 2011 grand Jeep cherokee caught on fire due to a sun visor recall (recall r71) the john hiester dealership in sanford, nc had previously fixed twice. Their special investigator said they weren't going to pay to fix the electrical fire damage because it wasn't related to the recall and wasn't a manufacturer issue. Basically, they implied that I caught my own vehicle on fire & risked my own life & the life of my grandchildren, which is crazy. See details below: on October 23, 2020, I took my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee to the john hiester Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, ram dealership located on hawkins avenue in sanford, north carolina, to have the sun visor wiring related to safety recall r71 replaced. Per the attached invoice from the dealership, they replaced the right and left sun visor and installed wire guides and grind reliefs. At approximately 6:45 a. M. On December 9, 2020 (not even two months later), from inside of the house, as usual, I used the car key to automatically start my Jeep that was stationary (sitting in my driveway) so that it could warm up. When my grandchildren and I walked outside to get into the Jeep, I noticed a lot of smoke on the inside, so much so, that I couldn't see anything. Upon opening the Jeep door, the entire vehicle was completely filled with smoke. With the doors opened, the smoke finally cleared, and, in horror, I saw that the roof on the inside had been completely burned and paint on the outside of the roof had bubbled from what appeared to be a fire. I immediately connected the incident to the recall that was repaired on October 23, 2020 because the previous night, I'd tried to turn on the visor light to read something and the lights were extremely dim. I messaged the john hiester dealership via online around 7:30 a. M. From there, my Jeep was towed to the dealership, where it still remains unrepaired.
My 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee caught fire due to a faulty vanity visor mirror wiring that has a recall and was repaired per recall prior to the fire. I was able to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. My car has had the recall performed and was in to two different dealerships this year for recall service. Had I not been in a parking structure, I wouldn't have had access to a fire extinguisher and the car certainly would have burnt to the ground. I was entering a parking structure at the time of incident (driving). Recall number:15v-879.

All warning sensors went off on the dash, my brakes locked, luckily at low speeds either while parked or pulling into a parking spot. It had to be towed 3 times, one time we had a little smoke coming from under the hood which turned out being the corroded harness. My brake lights were all stuck on. Jeep says it was the wheel speed sensor, 2 out of 4 have been replaced. I've also had to have my wiring harness replaced twice (within 6 months) due to corrosion. All of this happened at the same time.

I have a 2007 Grand Cherokee. While taking my kids to school, I was slowing down when the Jeep just died. I coasted to the side of the road and was able to start the car again. Anytime since then, mainly when slowing down to stop, it would do the same thing. Tried replacing ecm, sensors, etc. Nothing has worked yet. Jeep dealer told us it could be the wiring harness. . . Which we cant find anywhere.

Dashboard lights and alarms simultaneously blink on and off. Seems to be a short circuit in the wiring. Gas tank levels off at 'empty', and the fuel gauge spins 180 degrees so that it is caught under the 'resting stick' at 0, therefore, no longer reading the gauge. This happens while in motion and while parked.

Msg appearing service shifter, took into shop and stated it could be an electrical wiring but will not know until they break down the shifter. Jeep has already had a recall but I've already taken care of that recall on this Jeep. Reading a lot of people are having the same issue with the service shifter and really should be a recall on this. At this time I have a short to the circuit in the shifter.

Seat heater wiring inside both front seats cracked at seat heater elements causing electrical resistance and melting of seat cushion material surrounding wiring. This defect was previously addressed via safety recall 09v11700 in 2009. Chrysler claimed my vehicle had received the safety recall, and the parts are only warranted for 2 years. If this is true, the new parts have the same fire hazard as the old parts.

Made an appointment at autonation on i45 in spring, TX to clear up 3 recalls, one of which was the sun visor wiring cbxdp361ab. I dropped my car off at 845 am. I was informed my car would be completed @ 400pm. When I checked in with the service advisor I was informed my car was ready and to pick up the key from the cashier. I picked up the key and invoice from the cashier and one of the recalls said no work performed. I found the service advisor who said she forgot to tell me that the part was on backorder and she had no idea when the part would be in. That's unacceptable for a recall to occur and there's no answer to when the recall will be resolved.

On Dec 29, 2017 I made an appointment with world Jeep in shrewsbury,NJ to address 3 recalls on my 2012 Grand Cherokee. The appointment was made for 8:00 am on Jan 3, 2018, the Jeep service person confirmed that the needed parts were in stock. 1) sun visor wiring this was a recall on a recall r71 they confirmed parts were available and scheduled service I was advised that the car should be done by noon. When I had not heard by 4pm I called them - they stated that the service advisor would call back. . After 45 minutes (now 4:45 pm) I called again. Again I was told I would receive a call shortly. About 15 minutes later (now 5pm) I received a call from the advisor that said 1) the brake booster water shield inspection was just being started 2) they had not done anything on the sun visor replacement and would not get it done today ! 3) I could pick up the car around 5:30 when they should be done with the inspection. I asked are you telling me that you've had the car for 9 hours and done nothing ?' she replied thats about it ! its out of my control. This was after they had the vehicle almost for 9 hours. Had they informed me at dropoff of the fact that they could not perform the scheduled service I would have gladly rescheduled. Instead I wasted a day waiting by the phone. To hear from them. So in summary I waited a day for them to compete a recall inspection that should have required at most an hour and I will now have to reschedule probably 2 more days for the remaining service recalls. This was my 3rd Jeep but I would have to seriously reconsider if I should ever buy another one from this dealership or Jeep. Attached is the service sheet showing the drop off time (8:04am. Promised time (9:30 am) actual delivery time 17:30). Service 1) not performed 2) not required.

The break tail lamp shots out and had to replace the unit twice this year and the was wiring shots to the break light and it cost me $1500 for the break light wiring shot and the tail light assemble. I have had this problem for 3 yrs consecutive and I think it is a safety issue since it is the breaks lighting and their has been multiple complaints about the same issue for this vehicle on line. I think that Chrysler should recall all this vehicles and rewire them for free since it is a safety fitcher. The whole break wiring had melted because it had a shot and burnt the bulb sockets and assemble unit.

Without warning my Jeeps engine will shut off. It doesn't matter if it is while stopped or driving it will shut off and not turn back on until about 10 minutes later. When it has shut off it will still turn over and I have power to everything I need but it will not fire up. This happened first on a sunny morning driving in town. I towed it back to my house and could not get any codes. It fired up and I thought it was fine so I kept driving it. At this point about ten minutes down the road in the middle of traffic and while cruising along a busy road it shut off, I had power and the ability to steer but no power steering. Luckily I had a driveway to pull into and I coasted into it. This happens without warning. At this point I have my Jeep at the dealer in modesto CA for a diagnostic and they have told me that I need to replace the computer and the wiring harness for 1400 dollars and then they will see if that fixes the problem. Not a guarantee it will fix the problem. This is unacceptable to me as I cannot spend this type of money with the hope that whatever other problem there might be will be more affordable or easier to diagnose. This has to be a problem that is inherent with the Jeep itself and a manufacture defect. Not only do I not believe this is my fault as a user of the vehicle but I believe that this has caused an unsafe operating condition and I could have been seriously injured if this had happened on another road such as, a dirt road, mountain road, winding road, in icy or rainy conditions, or on the highway. This has also caused me to not be able to sell this car for any reasonable price, and the price for repair is over a quarter of the blue book of the car. Overall I do not feel safe with this vehicle for the intended purpose it was made for and this needs to be investigated before someone gets killed. Thank you.
Wiring problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 19
My 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee interior lights stay on and windows will not work. Have had this problem fixed 2 times now and it has happened again. On the internet it says it is a flaw in the wiring harness. A black ground wire breaks. Also the vehicle is developing the death wobble where going down the road if you hit a bump the front end shakes violently. Had this same problem on my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Very dangerous.

I have a safety recall on my vehicle, regarding the wiring on the vanity lamp on visor. I contacted the dealer that I purchased it from and scheduled the 'warranty recall' appt to repair. When I arrived, they had me to leave the vehicle with them. I returned later that day to pick it up and was informed they didn't have part. I asked if they would contact me when they get it and they never did. It's been 4 months now. What do I do?.

Front passenger side door wiring harness broke at 165,150 miles. (this has happened on the driver side of my 1999 Jeep also). Many complaints on the internet of this very problem!!! happens to almost all Jeeps at some point. Too short of wiring harness and/or brittle of wires. This repeating problem needs to be a recall for all of the door wiring harnesses. When this happens, doors do not lock, windows can not be raised or lowered, back hatch or window cannot be opened. If there is a pet in the far back and a pet fence is in place up front, you cannot get to the pet!!! please make this a recall to fix. Thank you. Jeep/Chrysler needs to be held accountable.

Sun visor wiring recall r71. Received a recall notice from Chrysler today indicating that a wiring problem may cause a fire. Notice stated that they expect to have a remedy available in the 4th quarter of 2016. This does not represent 'remedy the defect within a reasonable time'. My Jeep has been on recall for over 7 months to fix the sun visor electrical problem. I am told they are working on a permanent fix since the other two fixes does not work. This is a huge fire/safety issue and it seems Jeep takes forever to immediately repair any recall item. Here is a cut a paste: NHTSA recall number: opens new window takes away from VIN lookup section> 15v-879 recall date: February 11, 2016 manufacturer recall number: r71 summary: the sun visors on your vehicle may experience a high resistance short at the sun visor vanity lamp wiring after a service repair to the sun visor, headliner or while gaining access above the headliner. Safety risk: this may result in an inoperative vanity lamp and/or an electrical fire. Remedy: a permanent remedy for this condition is currently under development. Fca is making every effort to finalize a remedy and obtain parts as quickly as possible.
Wiring problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee 32
Vehicle was in motion when I noticed smoke coming out of the passenger vanity mirror area. I immediately pulled over, turned the car off, and called 911. The responding firemen had to cut a hole in the roofliner of the automobile in order to determine the location of the start of the fire, which they confirmed was the wiring to the visor. The direct cause of the fire was confirmed by service employees at the dealership the car was brought to, as well as investigative engineers for Chrysler, as faulty wiring to the visor lighting on the passenger side of the vehicle. The cause of this incident is directly related to NHTSA campaign #14v391000, Chrysler recall #p36. A recall for the visor wiring was issued, and repairs were made at the dealership. The fire in the vanity area of the automobile occurred roughly a month after the recall repair was completed. This leads me to believe that the solution for the recall issue is not sufficient and should continue to be investigated.
Wiring problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee 33
On 11/3/2015 at approximately 5:30am I was driving my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee when I began to smell strong fumes which I suspected was coming from my car. Moments later smoke began overwhelming the cab of the vehicle. I pulled over, got out and it was then I saw flames coming from the top of my car over the area of the driver's seat. The fire department came to put out the fire. The roof and driver's seat was damaged from the flames. Inspections by my auto insurance and Jeep confirmed the source of the fire was from wiring located on the driver side sun visor. This is related to a recall on the vehicle which I had addressed in October 2014 (paperwork attached as well as pictures of the damaged vehicle and fire).
Wiring problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 34
On November 1st, 2015 my Jeep was rear ended while stopped at a red light. The other driver who hit my car admitted fault and is so documented in the police report. As of this date 2/3/16 the car is still at the repair shop. All repairs have been made except. . . The installation of a rear wiring harness that Jeep/Chrysler cannot provide. The estimated delivery of the wiring harness from Jeep is the end of March 2016. Chrysler customer care has refused to provide a rental car/make my payments/ or terminate the lease. My case # at Chrysler customer care is 28515506. I need help11.
Wiring problem of the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee 35
I was driving my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a city streetwhen my eyes and throat started burning. My 10 month old infant began to cry as I realized smoke was filing the cabin. I panicked, and pulled over, turned off the car and immediately took my baby out of the car. We remained in the side of the road for assistance. I continued seeing smoke coming out of the right side of my car. When assistance arrived, I realized the right visor had caught on fire and a result was burned with a black hole. I took my Jeep to the dealership on January 6, 2015 to get it serviced for recall p 36, which is related to the sun visor wiring. I was told by the dealership, that the recall had been completed. I contacted chyrsler customer support after my Jeep was on fire and filed a complaint. The representative was so rude and told me it would take 2-3 business days to get my case reviewed. This was not a surprise, as I have dealt with Chrysler customer service in the past and have never had a good experience. I feared for my safety as well the safety of my infant. I refuse to drive that car, and was told by the customer representative that I shoukd take it to the dealership. Why they would suggest that ? I don't know. I don't feel safe and now I am car less as I wait for someone to review my case.

Print the electrical wiring diagram off plus use highlighters to be able to trace the routine. When you employ your finger or even stick to the circuit together with your eyes, it is easy to mistrace the circuit. A single trick that I actually 2 to printing exactly the same wiring plan off twice. About one, I’ll search for the current movement, how it works, and that exhibits me what parts of the signal I need to be able to check. Then upon the other a single, I’ll start colouring the things which tested alright. Once i get done, anything that’s not necessarily highlighted are believe circuits i require to identify.
